National Voters’ Day Celebration-25.1.21


A Webinar on National Voters’ Day, was organized and conducted by the Youth Red cross and the Red Ribbon Club of our college, on 25th January 2021. The theme of today’s Webinar was “MAKING OUR VOTERS EMPOWERED, VIGILANT, SAFE AND INFORMED”. The number of audience was large who took their oath at 11.30 am. The organizers had invited DR. V. Ragupathy, Professor & Head, Department of Political Science, Gandhigram Rural University, Gandhigram as the Chief-guest for today’s Webinar.

The Programme began at 3.30 pm with a prayer song, sung by the college choir. Then, welcome address was given by Mrs. Sridevi, C., and the RRC Programme Officer of our college. She made the audience feel at ease and pleasant by her warm welcome note. After that our Principal, Dr. S. Gayathri was requested to deliver the Presidential Address.

For the next the chief guest, Dr. V. Ragupathy was invited to speak on the theme of today. He delved deep into the historical development of democracy and the need for voting to select the national leaders. He also spoke at length the importance of voting and its significance. He insisted that each and every citizen, above the age of 18, must exercise his / her franchise by faithfully casting vote, as it is each citizen’s bounden duty and a national obligation.

Moreover, he imparted a valuable current information on voting: That is, he mentioned that the Election Commission on Monday, rolled out the electronic version of the voters’ photo identity card on the occasion of National Voters’ Day. A new facility of voting system has come into being through Digital Voter ID Card, or the e-EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card). Thus, he built anawareness of the responsibility and the needfor fulfilling our national obligation of voting.

Finally, Mrs. Gomathy, S., the YRC Programme Officer of our college was invited to propose a vote of thanks.
